Design Development

The process of creating a movable structure raises many questions with regards to construction and material. In this first stage of design development, the focus has been to discover firstly, an overall shape and secondly to zoom in on individual components of the design. We experimented with a few grid typologies to see what the relationship is to different functions. The second step compiled a few ideas for how different units of the structure can function and work together. Combining the grid and possible unit's configurations will allow for a design decision to be made on how the intervention will be formed. This allows our atom to make a conscious decision on the relationship of the interactivity between a user at the scale of an individual unit of the design.

Grid Development

Exploration of what a grid can be and function. In this way we can see what grid can provide the best layout for different functions or programmes.

Unit Development

Find more possibilities for the movement of each unit. We will attempt to apply the unit into the grid and to see whether it is appropriate design solutions.

Input & Output Actors

Distinguished from the traditional designing methodology in which architects will dominate every part of the whole designing process by applying the up-down styling intervention and previous experiences, we try to apply a bottom-up design method to build up a connection between the building and the actors in which the persistent information input and output will be available. In brief, actors could input their own information and desires of different programs to our building, our building will output relevant data and possiblilities to them to meet their demands. The actors will have the ability to give feedback to the building again. As a result,an active loop of information exchange and interactivity between building and actors will be generated in the design strategy.

Input Actors

Possible demands(input data):Exhibiton,Party,Eating,Reading,Meeting...

Output Actors

Possible solutions(output data):

Exhibiton:linear space,

Party:wide and open space,

Eating:private or open space,

Reading:enclosed and private space,

Meeting:clustered space...

Operation:

Actors can consult the information desk where we will provide them with some possibilities or suggestions of spatial arrangement instead of fixed functions. Then they can organize the functions all by themselves by combining the units into different space.(refer to Concept)

Proposal

The intervention is able to provide people something new/extra, not yet available in the park. In order to do so we make an intervention which consists of different smaller elements. Together these elements are able to create different spaces and landscapes. At the same time these elements have some unique features dedicated to specific users. The shape, size and placement are yet to be determined for this concept.

Future

In the Future this atom would like to get a better vision on the demands and behaviour of visitors to different functions. In this way the intervention would be a result of the possibilities it should be able to give, and the needs of the different functions. The challange will be to make 1 or more groups consiting out (more or less) generic elements which together merge in to something new. Further more we think it is interesting to join forces with Atom 6, the ideas of both atoms can be integrated without loosing any quality's of the individual concepts.

In the next fase of this project Atom 7 would like to try to convert this knowledge in to the shape/size/ fabrication of the intervention.

To focus more on the possebillity's of the intervention itself, a analysis on the possibillitys and dreams of the atom would be in place. In this way we can take a other approach starting from the intervention and match it to users and functions later. In order to do this we need a new analysis
