PROJECT DESIGN

WHAT? WHERE?

Planivol2.jpg

Autonomous public infrastructure With the proposed increase in housing and the subsequent requirement for more green space we are proposing an autonomous infrastructure for activities which can activate the existing underused park. Our intervention will form an additional public space to the site. Integrating into the existing fabric to provides a zone of autonomous activity between the faculty of Architecture and the de Vries van Heijstplantsoen site. The intervention will inhabit what is currently a narrow tarmac layby in order to bring benefits to the site with minimal modifications to the existing condition. The intervention will make use of the existing rhythms and flows of material and waste produced within TU delft, which can then precipitate and instigate new activities.

ELEMENTS - FRAGMENTS

One of the components of our design is to allow users to create their own fireplace from a set of predefined areas. These areas form a path that runs throughout the intervention. Underneath the paving stones is the 'fireplace system' that addresses concerns of ash management, cleaning, and fire safety.

RELATION WITH THE PARK

The structure reacts to the site, appropriating the space next to the park without having an impact on the park itself. The structure changes in height and orientation along its length creating a variety of spaces and at the same time a clear connection between the park and the street.

WOOD's WASTE SYSTEM

The project is reliant on the flows of waste and people within the TU Delft. Waste wood material collected from the workshops within the different university faculties are transported to the site in specially designed storage bins and can then be used by people who would like to have a fire. In this way, the activities of the intervention are dependent on the actions within the university, whilst simultaneously re-directing waste flows from having to be expensively disposed of so that they can create localised activity.
