atom03:Site
The De Vries van Heystplantsoen site has a strong natural character. Unlike its surroundings, it is not artificial and is a rare and powerful urban typology in Delft.
It is an isolated site and its introversion is stressed by the plantation barrier on the periphery. Although there are a variety of entrances, they do not seem to be
well defined, therefore access is limited and seems to only be used by locals as a transitional space. Once inside, the site seems to be connected with its surroundings
by traffic noise, and although experientially the isolation quality is enjoyed by a few, it is lacking a programmatic definition to keep the (new) visitor
interested and involved.
as the stingray redirects water (medium) to achieve motion, our project will simulate this dynamic behaviour by redirecting air (medium)as a manipulative element of sound levels. This is possible by simulating undulations on the surface of the ground controlling air/sound paths. As a reaction to this deformations, spaces with unique characteristics will be generated at ground and underground level.
