COLLABORATION WITH OTHER ATOMS/PROJECTS

Atoms 10 + 11

This project is a collaboration between atoms 10 and 11. Our concepts of Intimacy and Disruption can be encapsulated through the activity of fire and the resulting creation of spaces.

Disruption will occur on the scale of the passer-by as opposed to that of the demographic. In this way the introduction of an intervention even at a small scale can begin to have an impact on local rhythm.

Infrastructure for activities: The activity does not have to be disruptive by its nature but can instead be an activity which diverts or stops people doing what they had intended to. However we would also like to encourage a more diverse range of users and activities. These activities should be autonomous and will exist as a public infrastructure to be used as and when it is necessary.

Intimacy can be magnified through the addition of park space to the existing park. This can act as a buffer zone for the existing spaces to help protect it from road noise as well as creating a new public space. The introduction of activities such as the fire will provide points of intimacy. Although our structure acts as a physical barrier, it is permeable to light, which means that fires can also create an intimate space on the other side of the structure.

Projects F + K

Both projects are proposing a structure that responds to motion and rhythm in their environment. project F deals with people whilst project K deals with wind and waste. The projects are connected on several levels.

Programme: Project F is connected with the virtual digital reality, whilst project K deals with the analogue experience. Both projects provide a new activity for the fire and it is likely they will reciprocate users and create a new network.

Energy: The games proposed in project F need energy. We propose to power and heat their intervention using excess energy from the anaerobic digestor. As they are also trying to use arduino in their project we would like to use this knowledge in order to realise the wind responsive element of our structure.

Relationship between structures: The two projects are placed in different positions on the site, so they can coexist. Both projects propose minimal modifications to the site. The orientation of our project is toward the park so it faces the project F structure. Through the close proximity of the two proposals we will also be able to attract and direct users to one another.
