"In our own design work – the ‘context’ is a main centre of effort. It is not exactly a question of ‘fitting- in’, but of re-materialising, re-focusing – the words are difficult. The context may demand a totally invisible building or no building, a ‘countergeometry’ or a ‘continuation geometry’. The analysis have also highlighted problems and opportunities of the project site, helping us to define our challenge.
Problems
- No relation between site and context
- No attractive elements
- A lot of traffic around
Opportunities
- Becoming a bridge between city and TU/TNO
- New place to show scientific results
- Becoming a new meeting point
- To extend the botanical gardens
- Becoming a new landmark for the north entrance of the TU
Challenge
Our goal is to create and improve the communication and interaction between the city and the university, involving in an active and participatory way the people of these two systems. Our users are therefore everyone who lives or works Delft. Our clients are therefore the municipality and the TU Delft.

How
To achieve this goal we want to create a public platform that attract different users and promote the exchange of information, knowledge and experiences; and connect in real time different parts of the city.
Validators
We conducted interviews to understand the needs and desires of the people and define users and potential clients. The interviews have shown that actually there are two separate realities within the city; but, at the same time, the citizens said that they want to regain unity and participation. In the end we wan't to keep in mind the users point of view, so we will also hear the residents of TU Nord and possibly the student associations of TU.
