Current situation

The analysis reveals that our site is an in-between space among two systems that don’t cooperate and interact: CITY SYSTEM – RESEARCH SYSTEM

Our challenge

Concept

Our concept is

- connection, communication and interaction between different user groups

- production, distribution and sharing information

We want to create a public platform that attracts different user groups, where these groups can exchange and create new information and activities. In an interactive environment where people are stimulated and challenged but also can relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

To create this space we need hardware and software.

Hardware is the medium on which the software runs. A green channel (a connected green space, from behind the Science Center, the botanical gardens, and the extended park) binding different usergroups and functions together. On this channel people can move and exchange and interact. These activities (the software) are put into this channel (the hardware) in order that communication is increased and developed.

With this system we want to reactivate the potential network between the TU and the city.

Strategy

Making our site the center of the potential network → mapping in the two system the potential sites → Connect these potential sites with channels → enable the network

potential network : set of potential relationship between the different users of the city and their environment

potential sites : set of places from which could start an interaction process between the users and the environment

channels : set of paths for the transmission of the signals; there are two types of channels: physical and “wireless”. The physical channels could be in practice the green layer, that is a real attractors space.

The channel is the surface that merge the two systems and provides the platform for interactions

network : set of effective relationship between different users and their environment. The center of the network processes and redirects all the stimuli from every potential sites. Into the network are privileged the interconnections and the activities; there’s a sort of “broadcast” transmissions between the two systems.

Clients

Our clients would be the TU, Faculty of BK, maybe together with the City of Delft. In the end we wan't to keep in mind the users point of view, so we will also hear the residents of TU Nord and possibly the student associations of TU.
