Slide atom 1

This slide focuses on the team setup. Each of us has chosen Hyperbody for a specific reason and has a fascination about the subject. We all have something we would want to research and explore in particular.

We agreed that for best results it would be good for each of us to work on our specific points of interests. Therefore, we chose a specialization which complete one another within the atom, with the goal to create a well integrated, iconic sustainable design.

Koen: Why I chose Hyperbody

I chose Hyperbody to understand the future of architecture better and to try and understand the qualities and speed of computer-aided architecture. After working on an RMIT project which was very practical and might even be realized, I felt Hyperbody would be the complete opposite. I hope to cherry-pick the best aspects of the Hyperbody design methods and combine them with my RMIT kind of thinking, so I can use them in my own architectural office in which I strive to create sustainable architecture. Hyperbody gives me a whole new look at what sustainability can mean and I'm eager to learn as much as I can at this studio.

Manon: Why I chose Hyperbody

I chose to take the hyperbody track for the master because I am drawn by the close interaction that parametric design allows between the elements that influence the design and the shape of the final object. I find generative computational design substancial in the development of my architectural education as it is a powerful tool which can be applicable at any scale or layer of construction. Through Hyperbody I intent to learn how to model complex shapes and I seek to begin & continue to think differently about space, volume and thus architecture. This explains my position as the “parametric leg” of the team setup metaphor.

Joost: Why I chose Hyperbody

My Fascination is the creating of complex forms best suited to deal with engineering problems. This can be either dealing with structure, climate, material aspects etc. I would also like to do research in natural patterns, and how they can help us architects and engineers to create natural beauty and uncommon solutions to design problems. Next to this my goal is to learn what kind of design questions or input lies behind this complex formed architecture and of course how to create this myself by learning how to use the right tools. The specialization I chose within this atom is the structural engineer, as seen in the slide. This is one of the three supports to create a sustainable design.

HyperPublic Concept, 12-9-2011

Despite its location, the site is isolated and currently lacks a specific function. However, it has the potential to act as a central platform on which the university can interact with the general public and its own community. Our iconic structure will be an allure in itself and will mark the beginning of the campus.

We strive to create an accessible space, adjustable by the users to respond to their specific needs. The demand of the potential users is explored through a questionnaire which will enhance active use of the space.

With our general concept in mind, we decided to explore the following structures: a static structure and a dynamic structure.
